Filak Blurb

Darin Filak, former president of Tulsa FOP, is under investigation for another possible policy infraction quickly on the heels of a demotion stemming from his involvement in a routine seniority lottery just before the graduation of the last Academy class in February.

Just like any other officer, he would probably like to have been in the paper for saving a citizen from peril or helping clean up a crime infested area instead. We all have bad days that stretch into bad weeks. Looks like his has stretched a bit longer than that! (Tulsa World May 21st)

Half the Pools?

In 2002, 03, 04 the pools suffered from tight budgets then as well, It seems they did not get a chance to recover before this round of news came out.

The Tulsa FOP took the LaFortune administration to a hearing about its finances in 2004 and located money in the City’s budget that could have kept the pools open back then. It was an expensive process for the FOP at the time but it was eye opening. It wasn’t a sexy hearing (not many City hearings are!!) so it did not get a lot of press attention.

Perhaps with the level of scrutiny that the Council is giving to the budget now and the need to “sharpen their pencils” to look for road repair money, some of the darker corners will reveal some funds the Parks Department can use for the kids this year! (Tulsa World May 23rd)

Stranger Things Have Happened

There is an un-spoken, or perhaps even spoken, belief that police groups and Tulsa City Councilor Jack Henderson don’t see eye-to-eye. That can be true on various issues but not all of the time. Councilor Henderson was quoted supporting the local Chamber of Commerce in their words of caution to the Council regarding the July, now August, hope for a street package vote.

Councilor Martinson seems to be doing “over-and-above” trying to sort through the complicated financial system used by the City of Tulsa to collect and spend its money.

It seems logical that those bodies that represent the business community have a valid place at the table. It also seems that their comments of caution this early in planning are prudent. Councilor Henderson seems to be wise to support that at this time. (Tulsa World May 23rd).
